Eighteen-year-old VICTORIA JUSTICE is seriously proving herself as a triple threat amongst the Hollywood scene, as a young rising star with a motivation and passion to stand out from her other nearing-twenties counterparts. Staring as the lead in her own Nickelodeon series 'VICTORIOUS', the young starlet is quickly becoming a one-to-watch-out-for in the acting, singing and song-writing department, not to mention she's also noted amongst the fashion industry for her stupendous style. We've got an exclusive Coup De Main Q&A with Victoria Justice below! Enjoy...
Q: Tell us about the show 'Victorious'. V: 'Victorious' is a comedy. I play a girl named Tori Vega, who is a very normal teenage girl. She’s very relatable and is always trying to figure things out. She’s unexpectedly accepted into this performing arts high school called Hollywood Arts. It’s this very artsy, prestigious school with all these kids who are super talented. When she starts going there, she’s just trying to figure out what her talents are, trying to discover herself along the way, and dealing with normal teenage issues… like drama with girls, meeting cute boys, crazy teachers… Q: So, how did you get the role of 'Victorious'? V: I got the role because I was on a TV show called Zoey 101 for 3 seasons and was working with Dan Schneider, who is now Executive Producing Victorious. During that time, Dan Schneider and the people at Nickelodeon thought it would be a good idea to give me my own TV show and I was absolutely flattered… blown away… and freaking out! I couldn’t believe that I was going to be given this opportunity. From that, we started talking about what ideas we had for the show and what we wanted to be about. Dan was asking me about my life and he actually didn’t know I could sing or dance. He just knew me as an actress. Then, he heard me sing for the first time and it sparked an idea in his head of what the concept of the show could be about. I told him I went to a performing arts middle school when I first came out to LA and all things kind of just came together in his brain and inspired an idea for Victorious. Q: How do you like working with your costars? V: I love working with my costars! They’re really, really fun people. Avan Jogia, who plays Beck, is one of my best friends in real life, so I’m really lucky to go to work with him every day. We have so much fun together. It’s awesome to go to work and be able to work with your best friends every day. It’s so much fun. There’s never a dull moment.
Q: How did you get started in singing and acting? V: I’ve kind of been doing both all my life. I mean not professionally, but just for fun. As a little kid, I was always taking dance classes and stuff like that. I have an Uncle Joey who is a singer, so at family reunions and stuff, I would always get up and sing karaoke with him. It was always just something I loved to do. Acting is something I really got into when I was a little bit older. When I was about 8 years old, I started doing commercials and stuff like that. Those are really fun because you get to meet other kids and have a great time. I got to a point when I was like 10 or 11 when I felt like I really wanted to do TV and movies. I really wanted to get into a character. That was really my goal. So, we came out to LA and the rest is history. Q: You get to sing in the show. How does that feel? V: It’s amazing! I get to sing really, really great songs that I genuinely enjoy performing and singing. They never get old to me because I love the songs. I’ll sing the theme songs, which I’ve heard a million times now. The funny thing is after I perform it, I went home and listened to it more because I love the music that much. Performing them is so much fun. I just love doing it. Q: So what mishaps or funny slipups have happened on the set of Victorious that you can share with us? V: We’re always messing up our lines and joking around with that. Making goofy faces, doing weird dances, and singing songs and stuff. Oh yeah, I like to do this thing a lot where I like to prank my cast mates and crew members. I’ll hide behind doors and stuff and when I know someone is coming I’ll jump out really fast and scream in their face. And I get everyone every day. I think everyone is getting sick of it now because I’ve been doing it for so long. *laughs* But it’s so fun. Because everyone gets really freaked out.
Q: If you could take three things to a deserted island, what would they be and why? V: Probably a wing meal from Kentucky Fried Chicken. *laughs* Coleslaw, mashed potatoes and gravy. *laughs* My iPhone because it doubles as my phone and iPod, so that’s how I listen to music. Third thing I would want to take with me… I was going to say an Urban Outfitters gift card. *laughs* That would be one awesome island. Probably my sister to keep me entertained. Season Two of 'Victorious' premieres on Nickelodeon NZ (SKY Channel 041) from 6:30pm on Saturday December 3rd! |
