 I like movies, but it's not often that I get extremely excited about an upcoming release. I am however, really incredibly excited about 'SUBMARINE'. I don't think I have been this excited to watch a film since '500 Days Of Summer'. 'Submarine' is RICHARD AYOADE's film-directorial debut - who you will already love as Maurice Moss from 'The IT Crowd' and the director of music videos for Vampire Weekend ('Oxford Comma' and 'Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa'), Arctic Monkeys ('Fluorescent Adolescent', 'Crying Lightning', and 'Cornerstone'), Yeah Yeah Yeahs ('Heads Will Roll'), The Last Shadow Puppets ('Standing Next To Me' and 'My Mistakes Were Made For You'), Kasabian ('Vlad The Impaler'), and Super Furry Animals ('Run Away'). Earlier today, the NZ INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL announced that 'Submarine' would be included in its 2011 programme! I may, or may not, have been harassing the lovely people at their Wellington office that this would be a good idea... and by that, I mean that I most certainly did, and am now searching online for a duffel coat so that I can feel officially complete in life. ALSO: ALEX TURNER (of the Arctic Monkeys and The Last Shadow Puppets) wrote five songs for the film's soundtrack. I also love Alex Turner. Do you see where I am going with this? This film will capture my particular idiosyncrasies, for example, the way I seduce my classmate Jordana Bevan using only my mind. Also, since my parents' marriage is being threatened by a man who runs courses on Mental and Physical Wellbeing, the film will probably feature some elaborate set-pieces of me taking him down. There will be helicopter shots. There will be slow-mo, but also transcendent moments, like when I cure my father's depression... Note to the press: appropriate adjectives to describe this film include "breath-taking" and "irresistible" as well the phrase: "a monumental achievement"."     |
