I thought I should sneak a quick Merry Christmas in before I fall prey to gluttony, reminiscing and good old-fashioned slothfulness. This weekend I plan to eat and do not much else, while thinking of memories old and creating memories new (memories of me sitting around eating, in Paris nonetheless). This will be my first Christmas without family. All alone on the other side the world. I’m going to be fine, but I do feel bad for my Mum because this will be her first Christmas without at least one of her kids being there - seeing as how my Sister is in China. But fear not, we have all made suitable plans in lieu of what has gone before; my Mum is going to visit my Uncle in Palmerston North (guaranteed fun times to be had in Palmy North); and I am having an Orphans Christmas here. I’m going to hang out with a group of other foreigners who have no family to visit, a rag-tag group of people from vastly different backgrounds all coming together to support each other and enjoy a time of togetherness. There’s probably some kind of Christmas Spirit thing there, but I just can’t grasp it (or, more likely, I just can’t bring myself to actually write a moral). So I wish you all a Merry Christmas, oh wait... Happy Holidays (because I don’t want to offend anyone, not even the Non-Christians, aka the Heathens). Oh dear, what a horrible way to end a Christmas message, with a bad-taste religious joke. See, this is what happens when I don’t write about sport - things get messy. Holidays are meant to be nice and sweet and fun, but I find that hard to live up to most of the time. Sometimes you just have to take the mess and make the most of it. If life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. So in order to not offend anyone, and to make the best of a weird situation; I say that we should all just make lemonade, and use that lemonade to celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior. Gosh darn it I did it again. If you have read this far, just ignore this entire paragraph please. I hope you have a nice Friday. |
