Hi, my name is Brendon. I'm 25 years young (LOL!), I'm quite tall and I enjoy short walks to restaurants and having conversations spoken entirely in sarcasm. If bored - I will start to sing out loud, badly, and clap my hands to a non-existent beat. These are all things I feel I should share, to let you know just how unqualified I am to be doing what I'm doing. In August (i.e. Now) I flew to Edinburgh, Scotland, to spend an entire month experiencing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This festival is the biggest in the world of its kind, and encompasses everything from dance to drama to literature to comedy. And it's freaking insane. The population of Edinburgh DOUBLES for the month and the streets teem with tourists and performers from everywhere (even Germany!). Then, after August, I am moving to France. This is the main part of the trip, as I have a 12 month Working Holiday Visa with which to ply my trade and settle into the French culture. FULL DISCLOSURE: I have no trade to ply. And also, most worryingly, I don't speak a whole lot of French (somewhere in the 0%-4% range), so settling into the culture could prove a tricky prospect. But these are the things we must overcome. And these are the things I will be writing about here. Short snapshots of my 'adventures' and little tips and tricks for you to heed, if you decide to pack up and move away from where you are. My first tip: move to a place where you speak the language, unless you enjoy fevered panic attacks and crippling self doubt. Honestly, I have no idea why I'm doing this. It's a stupid idea, right? Oh well, I guess I'm on my way now, so I'll just get on with it. I hope I somehow become qualified over the course of this... |
