Manchester: it’s nice. Somebody told me that when I visit Manchester, I would either have my wallet taken; or my life. Not very encouraging. And not at all accurate. To be fair, I wasn’t walking around in an Arsenal shirt screaming derogatory remarks about both Man United and Man City. So if you don’t ask for it, it usually doesn’t come. I spent my days in Manchester as a student, hanging out with the kids (or, as I like to call them, the future). We went to a comedy show, a movie, student cafes, a pub quiz and even had fish 'n chips for dinner. How nice. I stayed in a student flat that housed 8 girls (I was introduced to them one by one as they came into the lounge in the morning, not expecting to see a strange man in a sleeping bag lying on their couch). They proved to be charming hosts and, as part of a team of 10, we totally won the pub quiz at the local Gin Club. (1st prize = 8 pints of beer. So while we won, we also kind of lost.) I had a good time in Manchester, although I really have no idea what you would do there as a tourist. I’m sure there was stuff to do, but I preferred having a local student experience.
