![]() Billboard magazine have released their Billboard's Women In Music 2010 list, with Atlantic Records Chairman/COO JULIE GREENWALD taking out the top spot. Greenwald currently boasts the honour of Atlantic Records holding the highest album market share of all female-executive-led labels in the current year to date - in addition to Atlantic being the very first label to gain 50% of its revenue from digital sales. Greenwald is also universally recognised for having prioritised the upgrading of all artist websites on Atlantic's roster, in a push to implement more direct-to-fan campaigns - successfully increasing site traffic for Atlantic artists by more than 73% since 2008. She also doesn't subscribe to industry stereotypes, causing internal headlines when she was first sighted on the New York subway instead of hiring a private car service. What a champ. Elle magazine have called her "the most powerful woman in the [music] industry", Jay-Z once gave her the two-way-pager code name 'Cool Jules', and Sean 'Diddy' Combs has said that she is "the coolest white Jewish girl in history"... In context? "You gotta understand, she grew up on tour buses with LL Cool J and Public Enemy and Run-DMC. She’s one of the reasons why hip-hop is where it’s at today. She’s probably the coolest white Jewish girl in history." - Sean 'Diddy' Combs, Elle magazine. My cash cash money day-job is supposedly musical digital strategy, so Greenwald is a heroine of mine, for her understanding of the importance of fan-driven promotions. Also worth noting off Billboard's list, at Number Five is music supervisor ALEXANDRA PATSAVAS, owner of Chop Shop Music Supervision and Chop Shop Records. Patsavas picks the music for TV shows 'Grey's Anatomy', 'Gossip Girl', 'Chuck' and 'Private Practice'. She's also responsible for the 'Eclipse' soundtrack, which features the likes of Florence + The Machine, Vampire Weekend, and Metric. Patsavas has also signed Marina & The Diamonds to her Atlantic Records imprint label, Chop Shop Records. ![]() |
