![]() Winning Rockquest for us was like getting a nice package in the mail. You go out to the letter box like any other day, not expecting anything special - maybe a bank statement or some form of advertising if you’re lucky - but then you reach down into your letter box and there’s this reasonable sized package addressed to you. At first you don’t really know what it is or how it even came about, so you take it into your home, examining thoroughly the exterior of the package. Given no clues from looking at the outside of the package, you hesitantly open it, fold by fold, being sure not to miss any clues that might lay on the inside edges. Then as you pull the item out you click, and realise what it is, and it’s that thing you've been waiting very patiently for, and you are very surprised it has come to you out of all the other people, and it is just a dream come true. Since Rockquest Good Fun have been receiving a lot more nice packages in the mail - a spot opening for an international act, the chance to play with some of our favourite New Zealand bands including Lisa Crawley and Artisan Guns, and as much exposure as a teen boy pop band could ever ask for, and a single which has surprised us with the response it is getting. Behind the happy guitar melodies of 'Naughty Little Sin' (the single) lies a haunting tale of elderly infidelity, uncovered by a kiss. A lot of people when hearing this think ‘hey well that’s a bit dramatic, not very Good Fun?’ - and it’s not, and I really can’t explain why we would choose such a horrific song theme. I think, though it is a fictional story, it is subliminally made up of various historical and some more personal love affairs, and I suppose it is just a topic worth singing about. The near future for Good Fun is looking to be lush with many more nice packages, with a tour to Fiji planned, a debut festival appearance, debut Auckland gigs and the release of our second EP, all before the clock hits 2011. THE GOOD FUN are the winners of the 2010 Smokefreerockquest! Watch the music video for their debut single 'Naughty Little Sin' below... ![]() |
