JOHNNY WUJEK the wardrobe stylist for the 'GHD' SCARLET campaign photoshoot - featuring KATY PERRY - walks us through the costumes and inspiration... Q: Talk us through the two Snow White looks you created on Katy Perry for the ghd campaign... A: The two Snow White looks are a twist on the original Snow White. There’s a dark, vampy, witchy Snow White where’s she’s got a short bob, so for that we went for the long, sexy gown, very tight-fitted. The other one was more innocent, feminine, very soft pastels and pinks, so it’s a contrast. Q: What are your top fashion tips for this season? A: My one fashion tip for this season would be to experiment with bold colours. I’ve been seeing a lot of bright colours, like oranges, greens and reds. I think if you can do it, rock a bold colour! Q: What would be your top piece of style advice for girls who want to experiment with their look? A: Try and venture off from what you normally do, depending on what your body is. I’m always into experimenting and trying new things, I know a lot of girls get set in a style or in a pattern, so maybe mix it up and try something new. Q: Describe a day in the life of Johnny Wujek... A: I don’t really have a typical day! Every day is different from the next but usually I end up having fallen asleep around 2am / 3am and waking up around 7 without an alarm to e-mails from Europe and New York because I’m based on the West Coast so the timing is all off. I could end up on-set doing a photoshoot or in my car prepping, meetings... Rarely have I been in LA lately, I’ve been travelling a ton so I could be somewhere in the world or I could be home in LA. There’s no such thing as a typical day but I wouldn’t change it. Q: Who is your favourite client to work with? A: The one and only Katy Perry! Not only is she one of my best friends, she’s so fun to work with. We get to travel the world and dress silly, dress glamorous and do it all, anything goes. We’ve been friends for about 8 or 9 years, we met randomly at a party at the bar, we became friends and the rest is history! Q: Who would you love to makeover – dead or alive? A: That’s a tough one because most of the people who are dead that I would want to work with were amazing, like Marilyn Monroe who’s amazing, or Elvis, he’s perfect! So alive I would say, if I could get my hands on Britney Spears I would take her to town. I’d do what’s right – she’s amazing, she’s so fun and iconic but I would have just tied it all up, make it really solid, bring her back up to where she was when she had that snake around her! Q: How did you incorporate Katy’s personal style into the ghd campaign? A: The good thing about this campaign is that it has a 20’s vibe to it. The vintage look is always so Katy so it was easy in a way to bring her into the shoot. When I met her she was very vintage and she still is, she’s got a very vintage look and shape. She exudes sexuality, she’s very feminine and womanly, so for the shot in front of the mirror she’s very sexy and hot, the next one on the fire escape is very lingerie and very innocent pastels. Q: What essential items should every woman have in her wardrobe? A: A pair of high-heeled stilettos, just in case, and a go-to party dress. I wouldn’t say a black dress because I like to experiment with colour and sparkle, but just one good party dress, the “I’ll just put that on again” compliment dress.
