bow |bõ|
noun
a knot usually having two loops and two ends; a bowknot
verb
to bend or curve (something) into the shape of a bow.

ORIGIN [Middle English bowe, from Old English boga; see bheug- in Indo-European roots.]

Here's how to make cutest headband just like the one from our fave Gossip Girl show!

What you'll need...

A headband ($8 from Diva, Bling, Equip and the like)
1/2 metre of 10cm wide ribbon ($1.60 per metre from Spotlight or an emporium.)
10cm of 2cm wide ribbon (30¢ per metre from Spotlight or an emporium.)
Needle and thread to match the colour of your ribbon.

STEP ONE... all scrunched up

Take the half metre length of 10cm wide ribbon. We need to singe the ends, or cut them with pinking shears so they do not fray.

Fold the ends of the ribbon into the centre, overlapping them by 2cm down the middle. Now scrunch the ribbon in the centre, folding the ribbon as you go. Check out the pic... Grab your needle and thread and stitch through the layers so the bow is secure.

STEP TWO... attached

We need to attach the bow to the headband. Making sure the side with the ribbon edges and thread faces the headband so you wont see it on the outside!

Now simply stitch the headband onto the bow, make sure it sits tightly onto the headband.

STEP THREE... bind and bound

Take the small piece of 2cm wide ribbon to form the centre of the bow.

Sew one end directly onto the underside of the headband, now wrap the ribbon around the headband and the bow so it covers the centre of the bow all the way back around.

Then with the remaining end of the ribbon (you may need to cut this to size) tidily hand stitch to the underside of the ribbon and you're done!

Variations

Use different colours of ribbon, try stripes and polka dots, and any other patterns you can rummage up!

Try layering another bow, but slightly smaller on top.

Create a cluster of small bows in pretty colours

If hand sewing is too much of a mission, you can use super glue or a hot glue gun.
