appliqué |ap⋅pli⋅qué|
noun

ornamentation, as a cut out design, that is sewn to a piece of material
A decorative feature, applied to a surface

What you'll need...

A plain garment (Anything you have that's boring and needs some revival!)

Lace appliques or motifs (head to Spotlight, or your nearest fabric store for some cute patches.)

Needle and Thread

STEP ONE...

Pin on your appliques, check out the pic below to see where I slapped mine on; one on the shoulder and one on the opposite side at the hem.

Next take a needle and thread and tack on the Appliqué.

STEP TWO...

Here's the back view of the tacking situation, make sure the lace is securely attached, otherwise the washing machine will wreak havoc!

Tie off the thread and we're all done, easy as.

VARIATIONS...

Mix up colours and moods of appliques, like mixing florals and geometric vibes.

• Throw in some ribbons and bows and mix it all up. Try making some mini sized bows, using the technique from our bow headband D.I.Y.

• Try using striped or plaid or a floral base garment, then add some sneaky appliques.
