After swooning over other platform shoes for months and figuring out that Creepers weren't the ideal fun-Summer-lovin' flatform footweear, I decided the best idea was to transform a pair of 'Converse' All Star Chuck Taylors into platform-ed versions. All thanks to 'Amazon' [surf/skate/denim], this platform dream became a reality... Bringing you 'AMAZON x COUP DE MAIN' = platform D.I.Y. You will need: - 'Converse' All Star Chuck Taylor Hi Top in Canvas. - 'Kustom' Jandals - $24.99. However high you want them to be really, I only used two pairs of jandals. - Glue. I used a 'Selleys' all clear glue. - Shoelaces / ribbon / string. - Scissors. - Craft Knife. - Sand Paper.
1. Cut the 'Y' shaped plastic strap off the 'Kustom' jandals, so all you're left with is the flat base of the jandal.
2. Glue the 'Kustom' jandals together - make sure you're gluing the right side. Smother glue over the whole surface and place the jandals on top of each other perfectly.
3. Firmly hold the 'Kustom' jandals together for a few seconds, then with the shoelace or string tie criss-crosses around the jandals a few times [see in above image] and make sure that it's knotted at the end or secured tightly. 4. Place books on top of the 'Kustom' jandals and leave over-night to sit.
5. Place the 'Converse' sneaker over the 'Kustom' jandal sandwich [I bought a menswear jandal size, in order to make sure they were big enough for the sneaker]. Trace around the 'Converse' sneakers with a pencil.
6. With a very sharp craft knife, cut out where the pencil mark is on the 'Kustom' jandals, so the sneaker fits perfectly on top. After you have cut around the pencil mark, you may have jagged edges due to the fact it's actually impossible to get completely clean edges... I recommend you sand down the sides.
7. Before you glue the 'Kustom' jandals platform sandwich to the sneaker, clean the jandals with a wet cloth or baby wipes. 8. With the platform sandwich 'Kustom' jandals facing the right way up, glue the top completely and spread evenly. Once spread evenly, place the 'Converse' sneaker on top of the jandal perfectly and hold securely for half a minute.
9. Once you've held the platformed sneaker together for half a minute, using a shoelace or string, tie really tight criss-crosses around the shoes to ensure that it will dry well.
And VOILÀ... You have your very self some awesome and unique 'Converse' x 'Kustom' platforms...
