Halloween. It’s that time where stores embrace the orange and black theme that’s synonymous with this particular holiday and deck themselves out with ghoulish décor.

It’s time for trick-or-treating – perhaps one of only few occasions these days where by knocking  on doors,  you score an incredible amount of confectionery goods and you’re in no way mistaken for being an Avon rep or a Jehova’s Witness.

It’s a time where we try our best to scare the crap out of each other.

More importantly, it’s a time where our costumes are crucial to the success of this annual holiday.

Shops in Manhattan are selling out as we speak – it’s a big deal! This isn’t some party in suburbia with there’s a dress up theme where you often get guests who are ‘too cool’ to get into it. Halloween means dressing up and dressing well and there’s no room for egos.  Unless it’s an alter ego!

This brings me to one particular designer, whom in some respect, celebrates Halloween everyday of the year with her signature style that’s earned her international recognition.

Her name is Samantha Rei. Her label is Blasphemina’s Closet.

Blasphemina's Closet

Launched in 2000, Samantha creates on-off pieces that are a combination of historical fashion, turn-of-the-century dolls clothes and Japanese youth fashion aka Lolita fashion. It’s a subculture that began in Japan heavily influenced by the Victorian Era and costuming from the Rococo period – 18th century, French, arty and elaborate.

Blasphemina's Closet is just that. Today her line has evolved to include menswear, accessories not to mention under garments which are rumored to be in the works. Check it out...

Some of my favourites are from her last Winter collection shown here....and on a side note, Sweeney Todd + Edward Cullen = THIS guy!
