‘BLAK’ was definitely one of our most anticipated shows of the day, with a rather high standard they had set for themselves at last year’s New Zealand Fashion Week.
Titled ‘MARCHEN’, this whimsical range presented by Tauranga based label ‘Blak’ took us on a journey through a darker, yet childlike dream. Full-length and full lace garments were a frequent appearance on the runway, in immaculate silhouettes that seemed to float by.
Basic shapes consisted of delicate detailing, with dramatic juxtaposed pieces including thick lace tops paired with light chiffon skirts. The feature print in the range was a combination of illustrated graphics – spider webs, chained heart and geometric patterns that pulled in all of the ideas behind the collection.
The ‘Blak’ pieces combined with talented styling by Chris Lorimer and brilliant accessories managed to transport the models to a never-neverland. Amazing twig tiaras that were made by Jarrad Godman and Matt Templeton truly brought in the childlike aspect of the show which was a significantly inspired theme.
Colours: Black, midnight blue, forest green, charcoal, gemstone tones and purple, white. Soundtrack: Lana Del Ray and Bjork. Styling: Chris Lorimer.
