The little black dress is an a staple in any wardrobe. It's the one dress you can always fall back on and has overtime become an icon when it comes to fashion. This year, the Diet Coca-Cola Little Black Dress show was one of the highlights! NZ designers and Australian designers each presented three dresses for the runway, starting with Kate Sylvester.

The second, a heavily ruffled party dress and the third, a delicious silk strapless dress - sheer in all the right places - with a grey and black silk belt to break up the black. I love how the fabric drapes! It's easily one of my favourite pieces on the night just because it is so wearable. Next was Aussie designer Alice McCall.

Photo: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction It screams party however I think her last dress is less LBD and rather more lavish 20's flapper, with sparkle in large volumes. I do love the victory coif though, where the hair is combed and set at the front like that. Divine!

Photos: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction In contrast to the starch pleats and loose fit comes Juliette Hogan with her set of dresses; playful; sexy and feminine.
Photo: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction I love this dress with the zip front and the layered short skirt - very Miu Miu. It's simple, youthful, very wearable and it's got that subtle shimmer to it that makes it the perfect little black dress for a night out!
Photos: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction The subtle shimmer is carried over to the floaty, floor length chiffon dress, cinched at the waist with a bow. Sheer and Classic. Her other being a fun and flirty 20's layered short dress. You can't go wrong with any of these! Enter Marnie Skillings - another Australian designer with her range of black tuelle and sequined dresses matched with wide belts. The headpieces by Jasmine Noir were made especially for Marnie Skillings. They were very Lady Gaga what with the whole heavy black band and black chains.

Photo: Air New Zealand Fashion Week / Michael Ng Beautiful and dramatic at the same time, everything from the contruction to the folds made these dresses stand out on the runway. It was like wearable origami.
Photo: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction Romance Was Born bought some romance to the show...
Photo: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction They took us back in time with dresses such as this - black velvet, a full lace lion's collar, detailed lace stockings plus a whole lot of glitter on top of a 20's finger wave hair up.
The trio from Jimmy D were gorgeous!
Photo: Air New Zealand Fashion Week / Michael Ng Silky, soft and uber sexy with the fabric teasing in just the right places! Each were drawn at the waist by a matching thin belt then left to trail off at the back.
Photos: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction Australia's Kirrily Johnston wrapped up the show - one of her key dresses was this 80's power dress with a chunky gold necklace!
Photo: Jane Sullivan for Designer Direction With the styling of Chris Lorimer, make up direction of Olivia Russell from M.A.C and hair under the direction of Jayne Wilde for GHD - this show really came to life and set the standard.
