Hurts

HURTS. Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson are a mysterious bunch. The Manchester duo placed fourth on the BBC's Sound Of 2010 list, despite not even having played a live show yet, or releasing a single. Considering the likes of Ellie Goulding, Marina And The Diamonds, Delphic, and The Drums, place alongside Hurts, one would assume that it's pretty safe to bet that the band will be a lot less of a secret by the end of the year.

In a recent interview with I Like Music, Hutchcraft explained the band's initial preference to foster anonymity: "We were in bands before and we did so much faffing around, we decided we'd had enough of it all. Following that we slowly started to make music again. We thought to ourselves - let's just forget about the rest of the world and put a lot of time into the songs. They're your currency really, and we get the most enjoyment out of them that way. When we started Hurts we felt we'd hit something. We wanted to run with it for as long as possible. We wanted to know the identity of it before we presented it to anyone else."

Other things that the Internet can tell us about Hurts include: Theo and Adam met outside a club when their friends were having a punch-up, the two struggled to find common musical ground until they discovered their mutual love for Prince, Anderson's Grandad was a wartime entertainer who played banjo for the Queen, and Hutchcraft's father made him write out all of the lyrics to the Sugarhill Gang's 'Rapper's Delight' when he was really, quite little.

Expect Hurts' debut self-titled album in August. From what we've heard of it so far, this is an album for those that like their pop - EPIC. The band are currently offering a free download of first single 'Better Than Love' HERE. My favourite from the five songs I've listened to is 'Blood, Tears & Gold', which you can listen to below...

...and what do the two like to listen to currently? Florence + The Machine. Marina And The Diamonds. A lot. That's reason enough to give them a chance in my book... Watch the music video for 'Better Than Love' below...
