 PART X l PART XI 'Bulletproof Heart', pure technicolor, & the Pontiac Firebird Trans-Am... FRANK IERO: 'Bulletproof Heart' started a while ago. That was, that song has been a year and [a] half in the making. And it was just one of those things where I was checking my guitar and I was like <makes sounds> and they were like: oh, wait, wait. I was like: no, no, that wasn't a song. He's like: no, no, that's the song. <laughs> GERARD WAY: <laughs> Oh, yeah, it was really... FRANK: I said: okay. And we, that song, I don't know. If 'Na Na Na' is the prologue, this is the cliff notes. GERARD: Yeah, for sure. FRANK: You know? GERARD: It was thematically the thing too. That was from a previous recording. But just the line: I do my talking with a little laser beam - is the line that it was in there even in the previous recording, but it was like we got to go thematic. Like, it was one of the things that, it's one of the lines that made us re-record the album... because we hadn't achieved that kind of colour on any of those songs, you know? That, and much like the whole record, that song is very much in pure technicolor like the rest of the album, which is obviously tied in the visuals and the band. But the, the original title for that song was Trans-Am and that was solely a working title but it was because I was thinking about [the Pontiac] Trans-Am and I bought the Trans-Am, and I knew that eventually I was gonna use it in something we're about to do, you know? And so I think about that during the song. FRANK: Yeah. GERARD: You know?
