![]() PART XVI l PART XVII 'Party Poison', why Fun Ghoul has no tracklisting mention, and how laziness is murdering our generation... GERARD WAY: Yeah, like even the Route Guano, that was made upon the spot - like, I didn't know, I still don't know who[/what] Route Guano is. I think it's a place where the shit goes down, basically. And then kind of like, we didn't... we wanted that to come a bit earlier too, because we wanted to check in at this point, one last time before the end really, because from here on - and it really is like a super duper ride - and it kicks off with the track after it obviously, which is 'Party Poison'. Okay, 'Party Poison'. That was that 'Death Before Disco' [song] from the old recording. [The] Title felt old. Everything about it felt old. I've been wanting to use the phrase Party Poison 'cause I just felt like it's a new thing. It didn't exist, and I liked it. And I liked it so much I named my yellow gun Party Poison. And so, again, one of those - I did even have a call with Frank at one point 'cause I felt bad. I didn't call his own [song] 'Fun Ghoul' - because his gun is called Fun Ghoul. And he's like: I really don't [care], it doesn't bother me. FRANK IERO: No. GERARD: It was just like one of these accidental things that just kind of happens in the studio on the spot. And so, but that song, it's actually the anti-party song on the record, but still needed to be there because of that very sentiment - 'cause I felt like we did still want to remind people, like yeah... partying is cool but hard work is great, you know? And making art is great. And doing - get up - just getting up and doing anything is great, and not being lazy or sleeping in. I mean, that's a sentiment borrowed from 'Jawbreaker'. 'Dear You', which is the opening song about his generation that's like: we're killing ourselves by sleeping in. And I always love that 'cause it's very true. I was in my 20's and I was doing that very thing. I had friends that were doing that very thing. You can kill, you can murder yourself by sleeping in and not doing anything. And so, and then the Japanese woman was a friend of a friend, and that was the bit that made it feel futuristic and new, you know? And that was amazing to me once that was on there. It was a very, it obviously recalls the opening of David Bowie's 'Low', where the Japanese woman speaks for about minute before the song really starts.
