![]() I have a giant girl-crush on MEGAN WASHINGTON. Twenty-four year old Washington is a singer-songwriter educated in jazz composition, currently based in Melbourne, and originally from Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea - "so she is a wild girl that knows which tree has water in it’s trunk, but she speaks French and wears couture even though she can’t afford groceries". The Australian has been formerly employed by Ben Lee as his keyboardist and backing vocalist - and can also boast a live duet with Keith Urban on-stage at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena. But neither of those are really real reasons relating to my current infatuation. I don't think I can describe WASHINGTON (her and her backing band collectively, go by the moniker of Megan's last name) any better than her official bio - the writing style of which, reminds me of Florence + The Machine's bio, so an extra ten points ding ding! - therefore I've opted for a lazy copy and paste below: "She weighs half as much as her keyboard but she could punch out your Dad. Yes, she is a female singer songwriter... but she’s not shy and retreating or cute. BUT: she’s not 10 tons of slut in a mini skirt and nipple tape belly dancing on a crucifix. She’s addicted to Facebook but not like your best friend Tenille. Her voice will stop you in your tracks. It brings grown men to tears on live television (seriously). It soars, then falters, then soars again and it is full off sorrow even when it is full of joy (soft, broken, soaring, sorrow, spitting, sneering, smiling etc etc etc). And she can dance." My only worry with Washington is that if we are ever to meet... we wear exactly the same glasses frames. Ray-Ban Wayfarer II sunglasses in half clear half black with prescription lenses. I swear my stalking only begun from Friday... she wears them way better than I do, though. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Lisa Mitchell, The Like, Tegan And Sara, Gold Motel, The Jezabels, Sarah Blasko, Eisley... and dancing on your tippy-toes. Please listen to 'The Hardest Part' first! You will not regret this - PROMISE. |
