![]() COBRA STARSHIP are an under-appreciated Fueled By Ramen / Decaydance Records signed band, created by former Midtown vocalist/bassist Gabe Saporta. Their styling is based somewhere between the pop-punk of fellow Fueled By Ramen artists, mixed with electro-synths which could have been taken straight from an 80’s disco. They’re bright. They’re bubbly, and in their own words, “[they’re] just here to make you dance... [they] don’t care if they’re a guilty pleasure".
Cobra Starship have kept their dance-floor-friendly beats heavy on the synth, and Leighton’s voice is strong, radio friendly and fits perfectly as a summer anthem. Diving further into the land of Youtube, a cover of 'Bette Davis Eyes' solidifies the fact that Meester can sing, and she can sing well. With Starship’s new album 'Hot Mess' set to drop in the U.S. on August 11th... and a release date on Leighton’s debut currently unknown, there are a good few months of anticipation to be had before the verdict of my internal debate of “can an actress really pull off being a credible and good musician?”... is known. All signs are pointing to yes. Chinese zodiac may claim it’s the year of the ox, but I’m betting this might just be the year of the Cobra, with Miss Meester coming in as the new pop-princess. Move over B, there's a new queen in town. You know you love me, xoxo CDM ![]() |
