![]() 1993: Jim Adkins, Tom Linton, Mitch Porter and Zach Lind, form JIMMY EAT WORLD in Mesa, Arizona. The name comes from a drawing Tom’s younger brothers Ed and Jim drew. 1994: Jimmy Eat World release their first EP ‘One, Two, Three, Four’, and also release their debut self-titled album which featured guitarist Tom Linton providing most of the lead vocals. ‘Usery’ is the only song on the album to feature now-lead vocalist Jim Adkins. 1996: Just before the band sign to Capitol Records, bassist Mitch Porter leaves and is replaced by Rick Burch. The band go on to release 'Static Prevails' - their first time of many working with producer Mark Trombino. ‘Rockstar’ is released as the band’s first single. December 14th, 1998: The band release a five track EP which features ‘Lucky Denver Mint’ and ‘Your New Aesthetic’ which go on to be on their next full-length. February 23rd, 1999: 'Clarity' is released, an album which still remains a fan favourite years on. ‘Lucky Denver Mint’ was the lead single and with the exception of ‘Blister’, Tom Linton steps away from vocals and Jim Adkins takes over. You may recognize ‘Lucky Denver Mint’ from the Drew Barrymore classic 'Never Been Kissed'. 2001: Jimmy Eat World go mainstream with ‘Bleed American’ (later re-issued as a self titled after the September 11th attacks) - songs like ‘The Middle’ and ‘Sweetness’ could be heard on most mainstream radio shows. The album has been certified Platinum in the U.S.. October 19th, 2004: The follow up to 'Bleed American', ‘Futures’, is released. ‘Pain’ was released as the lead single. 2005: Jimmy Eat World go on tour with Green Day. ‘Work’ and ‘Futures’ were released as singles from their 2004 album. October 16th, 2007: 'Chase This Light', the band's highest charting album to date, was released. It peaked at Number Five on the Billboard 200. ‘Big Casino’ was the lead single. 2009: The band go out on the Clarity x 10 Tour to celebrate the tenth anniversary of ‘Clarity’. February-March 2010: Jimmy Eat World play Soundwave Festival in Australia, replacing My Chemical Romance who pulled out of the line-up. September 28th, 2010: The band's most recent album 'Invented' was released, peaking at Number Eleven on the Billboard Top 200. The world is introduced to Courtney Marie Andrews who provides back-up vocals on five songs of the album. ‘My Best Theory’ is the lead-single. Wednesday 13th April, 2011: Jimmy Eat World play their first ever show in New Zealand! |
