Foals

Oh, FOALS. I’ll admit, I’d only given their latest album ‘Total Life Forever’ a couple of spins prior to Laneway, and while I enjoyed it, I did not expect it to translate so amazingly into the live setting. Colour me impressed, from the moment the Oxford boys took to the stage for the final set of the evening, you would have been hard pressed to find me not smiling at any given moment.

With their set including ‘Total Life Forever‘, ‘Balloons’ and crowd favourite ‘Spanish Sahara’, it was easy to see why the band have been nominated for numerous awards including ‘Band Of The Year’ by UK music bible NME. Everything about their set was a definite win for me - the energy lead singer Yannis Philippakis showcased was incredible as he ran out onto the side of stage, hitting a drum-tom with incredible strength in their set closer ‘Electric Bloom’... I could barely take my eyes off him.

Even the onset of rain didn’t phase me, or the sing-a-long-to-every-word fans I was surrounded by. Everyone was dancing, everyone was smiling... the band and fans alike seemed happy and all I can say is: Foals, come back soon. Please!
