The Starting Line

One of the main reasons for me personally heading across the ditch for this year's SOUNDWAVE FESTIVAL, was the inclusion of THE STARTING LINE. When the band broke up in 2008, it seemed like all hope was lost for pop-punk fans who treasured the band as a staple of their music library and hadn't yet seen them live. However, after The Starting Line performed a reunion show at the end of 2009, it became a hope that I would one day see them live... a hope soon realized with their Soundwave announcement.

Opening with ‘Surprise, Surprise’ from their album ‘Based On A True Story’ and moving right into ‘Up And Go’ from ‘Say It Like You Mean It’, it was immediately clear that I wasn’t the only one who had been anticipating their performance with so many happy faces and sing-a-long's surrounding me.

Kenny Vasoli was everything I had hoped he would be – a man of true talent – and their experience as a band as well as their individual musicianship was evident in their upbeat performance which barely waivered from start to finish, an impressive feat for a band who hadn’t played a live show in over a year.

Ending their short thirty-minute set with ‘Best Of Me’, the only thing wrong with The Starting Line’s performance was that it was over so quick and did not allow for nearly enough songs to be played.
