Bring Me The Horizon

With their third album ‘There Is A Hell, Believe Me I’ve Seen It. There Is A Heaven, Let’s Keep It A Secret’ debuting at Number One on the ARIA charts, it wasn’t a shock at: A) how huge the crowd was, and B) how loud the sing-a-long's were, and C) how appreciative and proud the BRING ME THE HORIZON boys were in response.

Opening their set with lead-single ‘It Never Ends’ from the above-mentioned album, Oli Sykes’ vocals unfortunately lacked the same power and emotion that is found in the recording, however this was more due to the sound mix or at least how the sound hit where I was standing, as opposed to any lacking of energy on his part.

The band played a set which drew heavily from ‘There Is A Hell...’ and ‘Suicide Season’, with the boys playing songs such as ‘Diamonds Are Forever’, ‘Crucify Me’, and ‘Alligator Blood’ - all of which were met with circle pits, raised fists, and of course a wall of death.

The addition of Australian guitarist/back-up vocalist Jona Weinhofen really strengthened BMTH’s live performance - at least in comparison to their 2009 New Zealand performance. Weinhofen was able to comfortably perform clean vocals, including those done by Josh Franceschi of You Me At Six on 'Fuck', which when matched with his solid guitar work and abundant energy, solidified his place as a true asset to the band.

Ending their blistering performance with an extended version of 'Chelsea Smile', Bring Me The Horizon certainly know how to entertain and involve their audience, requesting everyone to sit down before commanding a communal jump midway through the song. Unfortunately, the previously mentioned sound issues seemed to plague the majority of their set, but as Oli held an Australian flag up high in the air, I’m not sure anyone really cared about much else than having a good time.
