Panic! At The Disco

SYDNEY REVIEW & PHOTOS:

PANIC! AT THE DISCO launched into their fifteen-song-set with their current single, 'Ready To Go (Get Me Out Of My Mind)' - with [instrumental] guns all a-blazing and lights all a-flashing. The band's energetic showmanship continued throughout their set, never showing any signs of fatigue during the hour-long showcase of songs from all three of the band's albums.

I can still vividly remember seeing Panic! At The Disco live for the very first time back in October 2006, at the St. James in Auckland. The band were fresh on the scene and their live performance was a bit rough around the edges, but they emanated a childlike charisma that was tremendously captivating. This [third] time round, it was all very much 'business-time' and felt like just another show-night on the P!ATD circuit, with karaoke-like performances of 'I Write Sins Not Tragedies' and 'Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off'.

Panic! At The Disco

It pains me to say it... but the phrase "drunk douchebags" comes to mind. You tell me... what sort of a band covers The Darkness' 'I Believe In A Thing Called Love'? The BRENDON URIE that I once fell in love with, would have never discarded his shirt only ten minutes into their set, then spent the rest of the set showing off his pasty upper-body with peacock-like swagger. These might sound like backwards complaints to you, but it's a sad day when you wake up to the realization that not only have you outgrown a band that you once loved... but the band have outgrown you, as well.

Coup De Main hereby awards Panic! At The Disco with a Counter Revolution... "I Miss 2006" award.
