ROUND WE GO... ARE YOU READY FOR THE CITY?

Powerpop band that I am desperate for right now... Kingston! Well known for their live electrifying, stimulating, one of a kind Powerpop Anthem filled performances.

Not going to lie, got home just over an hour ago from their latest gig @ Tabac Bar; { *in an english accent* } well hot, well buzzing, well humming 'Ocean'. The Auckland-based band have had a wicked '09 so far by the sounds of it, travelling to the States, Germany and even Japan. Ears still buzzing from the ultimate experience of watching them performing live, truly one of my favourite local band that I feel so grateful to see. The night started off with an (can you class a band where the lead singer has a blonde fringe with darker highlights underneath) indie/rock band called 'Frisk', kind of like... ooo...let's play charades. Four words. Sounds like Pings of Meon.... ding ding ding! Kings of Leon. Despite all of that, I actually enjoyed them and they seemed to have a mini fan club (possibly just girlfriends?!). Indie, over and out.

Then after a quick run to the nearest StarMart to refuel with some long awaited candy, we were back and Kingston had just begun their Set. Awkwardly re-maneuvering through the entry (really terrible set up, band was pretty much in the doorway? eek). Kingston are made up of Dan Gibson (vocals), Scott Cleary (guitar), Shohan Hustwick (bass), and Ben Barter (drums). Note to self: next time I need to make sure I'm wearing my dancing shoes to their gig, by the end of it you can't help but dance! Such a fantastic climax you can't help but notice, by the end of it you can tell that people have been holding back the whole show and can finally break free and share their sweet sweet dance moves. My very own favourite, the crowd dancing around a circle when they sing 'Round We Go'... mmm Ironic. FREAKING LOVE IT. Lyrically genious songs, the audience walks away feeling as they know themselves better or have experienced nothing short of an epiphany. As my friend put it "their songs just hit the spot"... especially in their anthem 'I Miss You', "Way to tired of walking, cos every step I take ain't the same without you".
