Call It Off YOU NEED THIS IN YOUR LIFE BECAUSE... Tegan & Sara have failed to come to New Zealand (again) for the third time in a row. Quite frankly, this is heart-breaking. The two times that Tegan & Sara toured New Zealand, they played Shadows Bar and the Kings Arms respectively... and I? Well, I was under-age. So as soon as I was old enough (!) I flew to Australia - Sydney in December 2007, then both Sydney and Melbourne in January 2009 - to see my favourite band in the whole entire world of all time... LIVE. This album - 'The Con' - is a life-long love of mine. I genuinely couldn't live without it. Art-director Emy Storey did a beautiful job on all of 'The Con' artwork, which is even prettier enlarged in all it's 12" glory. I ACQUIRED MINE FROM... Real Groovy - I think! I remember searching for it in alphabetical order at the Queen Street store on a whim, not thinking they would have it in stock. When I actually located the record, it was pretty much a sign from a higher calling that it was a do-or-die purchase, right? FORGET ABOUT DOWNLOADING, OR A CD, WHEN... you're able to get such great satisfaction from a vinyl record, that CD's cannot ever hope to light a candle to. Physical copies of music won't ever die as long as people still thrill at being able to hold music in their actual hands, for the sake of collecting and treasuring. My vinyl copy of 'The Con' is a little bent in the corners from it's travels to and from Australia to be signed, but I think that adds all the more to the heart-wrenching charms of the album itself.
