#46. RA RA RIOT - The Orchard ![]() Upon formation back in 2006, indie chamber-pop six-piece RA RA RIOT - Wes Miles, Mathieu Santos, Milo Bonacci, Alexandra Lawn, Rebecca Zeller, and Gabriel Duquette - gigged themselves silly in the local vicinity of Syracuse University campus, letting advocacy of their high-energy performances spread like word-of-mouth wildfire. Considering that the likes of such reputable on-stage fun aren't exactly commonly found within the same ranks as a cellist and a violinist - and that it's even more rare for such fun to translate well into studio recordings - it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what I already know... Ra Ra Riot's second album 'The Orchard' is a delightful listen... and it would seem that Death Cab For Cutie's Chris Walla and Vampire Weekend's Rostam Batmanglij agree with my sentiments, having shared mixing duties on 'The Orchard' album. MUST-LISTEN: 'Boy', 'Foolish', 'Too Dramatic', 'The Orchard'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Local Natives, Vampire Weekend, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, Passion Pit... and climbing fruit trees in Summer. MUST-WATCH: Ra Ra Riot's 'Boy' music video... ![]() |
