#45. PIERCE THE VEIL - Selfish Machines ![]() 'Selfish Machines' is the second full-length release from San Diego post-hardcore band PIERCE THE VElL and it certainly did not disappoint. In fact, it is so awesome it debuted at Number One on the Billboard Heatseekers chart - representing a 400% increase on first week sales in comparison to their debut album ‘A Flair For The Dramatic'. Not bad, Pierce The Veil. Not bad at all. Fearlessly led by vocalist and guitarist Vic Fuentes, ‘Selfish Machines’ is a strong and polished release which kick starts with a Spanish-fuelled frenzy of a track - album opener ‘Besitos’ - and continues on moving from strength to strength. Lyrically the album shows a poetic honesty, touching on everything from lost love (‘Caraphernalia’) to recognizing the ‘selfish machine’ in all humans (‘The Sky Under The Sea’), to a song dedicated to a young fan who lost her boyfriend in a car crash (‘I Don’t Care If You’re Contagious’). Overall the album is fast paced, with face melting guitar riffs and a voice which is one of the most unique and strong in the scene - that is if you can get used to Fuentes’ high-pitched tenor. MUST-LISTEN: ‘Besitos’, ‘The Sky Under The Sea’, ‘Caraphernelia'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Emarosa, Isles & Glaciers, Chiodos... and pretty boys with long hair and tattoos. MUST-WATCH: Pierce The Veil's 'Caraphernalia' music video... ![]() |
