#34. MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK - My Dinosaur Life ![]() It’s been said that rock stars write their best stuff while facing adversity, mental instability, or while under the influence. If there was ever an album to showcase the benefits of facing demons and getting clean, MOTION CITY SOUNDTRACK's 'My Dinosaur Life' is definitely up there with the best. Being hailed as the band's best album to date by Alternative Press magazine - having received their only 5 star review this year - Justin Pierre & Co. have taken up again the pop sensibilities of their 2007 release 'Even If It Kills Me' and returned back to their edgier roots, resulting in an honest and upbeat album that showcases their ever increasing expertise. Produced by Mark Hoppus of blink-182, 'My Dinosaur Life' kicks off with ‘Worker Bee’ - "It’s been a good year, a good new beginning... I’ve been a good little worker bee, I deserve a gold star..." - and with that, the tone of the album is set and gold stars awarded. Justin Pierre faced his demons and overcame adversity, with 'My Dinosaur Life' a fitting celebration of that. First single ‘Her Words Destroyed My Planet’ features Pierre trying to win back an ex-girlfriend by listing all the things he’s done to get better - sold his Xbox, stopped smoking weed, etc. - with honest lyrics, huge guitar hooks and subtle use of synths, this album is full of win and only gets better over time. MUST-LISTEN: 'Her Words Destroyed My Planet', 'Worker Bee', 'Disappear', 'The Weakends'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Valencia, The Matches, All Time Low, Fun (the band)... and fun (in general). MUST-WATCH: Motion City Soundtrack performing 'Her Words Destroyed My Planet' live for AOL's Interface Session... ![]() |
