Gold Motel - 'Summer House'

Before going their separate ways on hiatus, The Hush Sound were one of the most underrated - and one of my most celebrated - bands of the last decade. Therefore you can imagine my relief when pianist Greta Salpeter (who now goes by the stage last name of Morgan) announced the formation of her new band.

Enter, GOLD MOTEL. The songs of Greta's 'Summer House' album are the end-result of her temporary relocation from Chicago to Los Angeles whilst on the search for Summery Californian inspiration. Sunshine certainly radiates across the debut album - evocative enough to even make me (a Dunedin-born New Zealander) homesick for Southern California (and desperately wanting a poodle skirt).

P.S. If you're wanting more, Gold Motel have recently released two new songs - 'Cold Shoulders' and 'Slow Emergency' - as the 'Talking Fiction' release which you can download HERE.

MUST-LISTEN: 'Safe In L.A.', 'We're On The Run', 'Perfect In My Mind', 'Don't Send The Searchlights', 'The Cruel One'.
YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Eisley, A Fine Frenzy, Stamps, Family Of The Year... and curling your toes up in sun-warmed sand.
