#18. DEERHUNTER - Halcyon Digest ![]() Hands up - who is excited to see DEERHUNTER at Laneway Festival next year?! I am, especially after the musical magic found on their fourth release 'Halcyon Digest'. My first introduction to the album was the track ‘Helicopter’, which has a soft and poetic beauty in both its lyrics and instrumentals. Final track ‘He Would Have Laughed’ is a seven and a half minute epic dedicated to the late garage-rocker Jay Reatard. Fans of the band's earlier albums may miss some of the rockier electric-guitar elements found in their previous releases, but what 'Halcyon Digest' lacks in electric guitar is made up for with a multitude of other instruments - acoustic guitar, electronic percussion, banjo, harmonica, and even a saxophone. Intricate beauty is found beneath the surface of the songs of 'Halcyon Digest', resulting in an addictive release from one of Atlanta's finest. MUST-LISTEN: 'Helicopter', 'Revival', 'Memory Boy', 'Desire Lines'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Panda Bear, Wavves, Blonde Redhead, No Age, Sigur Rós, Atlas Sound... and the finer things in life. MUST-WATCH: Deerhunter's 'Helicopter' music video... ![]() |
