#17. LCD SOUNDSYSTEM - This Is Happening ![]() If 'This Is Happening' is indeed James Murphy's very last LCD SOUNDSYSTEM album, then I am okay with that. Murphy has had a great run - from the 2005 self-titled, to 2007's 'Sound Of Silver' and to the latest - so why be sad about LCD Soundsystem going out on a high? My calm might also have a lot to do with the fact that at the very least, New Zealand will be treated to 'This Is Happening' songs live at the 2011 Big Day Out. Selfish, I know. 'This Is Happening' boasts the best instrumental marathon of the year. I'm talking about the nine minutes and a half of 'You Wanted A Hit'. Perhaps Murphy's most autobiographical track of the album, he mixes somber synth and bass guitar tones with a lengthy discourse madly ranting about the many pressures of The Man - but in true LCD Soundsystem style, the effect is rousing, needless to say. MUST-LISTEN: 'You Wanted A Hit', 'I Can Change', 'Dance Yrself Clean', 'Home'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Hot Chip, Cut Copy, Simian Mobile Disco, !!!... and Spike Jonze directed films. MUST-WATCH: No need to watch, just listen to this excerpt of 'You Wanted A Hit'... ![]() |
