#15. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS - The Family Jewels ![]() The timbre of Welsh singer-songwriter Marina Lambrini Diamandis' voice - a.k.a. MARINA & THE DIAMONDS - might polarise the opinion of some, but after time I've come to adore it. Diamandis authenticates her worth on her debut album 'The Family Jewels' with magnificently rich and sassy vocals, that brazenly poke and prod at the mundaneness of complacent and superficial attitudes. Marina is a girl worth your time - and in a fatigued scene that has become awash with 'quirky' grrrl power constructs, one only has to listen to 'The Family Jewels' album to be completely won over. You'll find yourself nodding in fierce agreement with Marina throughout the electrifying 'Are You Satisfied?', interpretive dancing to 'Mowgli's Road', and belting out the chorus of 'Oh No!' at the top of your lungs. 'The Family Jewels' is a prize debut - and like all good things, Marina & The Diamonds can only get better and better with time. MUST-LISTEN: 'Are You Satisfied?', 'Oh No!', 'I Am Not A Robot', 'Shampain', 'Mowgli's Road', 'Hollywood'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Florence + The Machine, Ellie Goulding, La Roux, Sky Ferreira, Lady Gaga... and vintage cheerleader letterman jackets.
