#6. THE LIKE - Release Me ![]() The (mostly) Mark Ronson-produced 'Release Me' album from THE LIKE, is a swanky affair that wears its 60's girl-group influences pinned proudly to the sleeves of its members vintage dresses. After a five year recess in between albums, Z Berg and Tennessee Thomas finally resurfaced in the world as a four-piece with new members Laena Geronimo on bass and organist Annie Monroe. On 'Release Me', The Like show off their revamp with zealous handclaps and jangly guitar lines, with smooth production contributions from members of Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, and ex-Phantom Planet frontman Alex Greenwald solely responsible for bass-playing duties throughout the album (as recording happened before the new band line-up was solidified). The almost jubilant 'In The End' showcases the band's newfound attitude perfectly - where before The Like saw rain clouds and despair on their 'Are You Thinking What I'm Thinking?' debut, now they've come to recognise the possibility of a silver lining for every calamity. MUST-LISTEN: 'Catch Me If You Can', 'In The End', 'Walk Of Shame', 'I Can See It In Your Eyes', 'Narcissus In A Red Dress', 'Release Me'. YOU WILL LIKE, IF YOU LIKE: Lucky Soul, The Young Veins, The Living Sisters, Plastiscines, Dum Dum Girls... and raiding your Grandmother's closet.
