![]() At a press conference for Bonnaroo music festival, KINGS OF LEON drummer Nathan Followill divulged that the recording of their new album is "coming along great", according to Spin.com. Followill added that: "[It's been the] first time we ever recorded in New York City and we thought we'd come out with a darker record because we'd done all our records in either Nashville or Los Angeles where it's a little more chilled out." As for the direction that Kings Of Leon have taken on the upcoming album, Followill said that: "It's got songs that are beach-y and songs that are a little more like our [2003 debut album] 'Youth & Young Manhood' days. We're super excited. It will be interesting to see how well received it is." Kings Of Leon have started playing new songs from their forthcoming album on their current American tour. 'Immortals', 'Mary', 'Radioactive' and 'Southbound' will feature on the band's fifth studio album. Frontman Caleb Followill introduced the new songs at their debut in Atlantic City with: "You don't know these songs. But one day you will, and you can say you were the first people to ever hear them." MTV's Kyle Anderson described his favourite of the songs as "a sort of Zeppelin-flavored blues romp that imported a bit of Loretta Lynn for good measure. It struck just the right balance between melt-your-face rocking and twang-drenched beauty, and it's going to be a huge hit." Whereas Entertainment Weekly's Whitney Pastorek reviewed the new material as: "Those fearing KOL would retreat back to shambolic Southern jitter-rock needn’t worry (those hoping it would: commence griping), as the new material retains the size and scope of 'Only By The Night', while occasionally taking it in a direction that sounds alarmingly like Aerosmith; one song featured an almost Keith Urban-ish guitar riff; many of the songs seem to be about life on the road/in the public eye. The best of them was called, I’m guessing, “I’m Goin’ Back Down South,” [ 'Southbound' ] which Caleb said was one of the first times they’ve written about “the pride we have in where we come from.” With its sweetly reminiscent lyrics and slight country shuffle, it wouldn’t sound out of place in mainstream country."
