WILCO are returning to New Zealand for two shows in Auckland and Wellington in April 2010.

"Wilco Will Love You…" screams their 'theme song' and first track - 'Wilco' (The Song), from their recent album 'Wilco' (The Album). And that would seem true. Wilco LOVE New Zealand, announcing their return tour just a little over 10 months since they were last in the country recording tracks for their recent album, as well as recording with Neil Finn for the '7 Worlds Collide' collaborative album for Oxfam (- which, makes my top 5 albums of the year).

Wilco, are a country splattered alt-rock band hailing from Chicago and have been playing the scene since 1994 when they formed after the breakdown of Uncle Tupelo; which from the tragedy, Wilco was the aftermath. And with an impressive array of 7 quite diverse albums, it's impossible not to love what they do.

Wilco

Led by frontman Jeff Tweedy whose vocals emit the passion he has for the music, Tweedy is backed by an impressive group of musicians who also make up the sounds of Wilco - John Stirratt, Nels Cline, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone, and Mikael Jorgenson are the current line-up who have been playing together as Wilco for five years. Their songs take inspiration from many sources including politics, the environment and relationships. With a lot to say, every album is beautifully crafted and of their latest release - Tweedy has said it to be their best work yet. Other albums such as 'A.M.', 'Yankee Hotel Foxtrot' and 'Sky Blue Sky' are worth a listen to those newer fans, or fans to be.

But those who have been with Wilco for some years now, will undoubtedly have their personal favourites and a breakdown of song by song - of what makes Wilco so great. If you’re after a new band to check out, Wilco is worth a listen... and their live show? So tight-knit you cannot fault them. With constant banter from the band - at their Wellington show last year Tweedy made a crack at the aging rocks playing the Rock2Wgtn event that they were playing the weekend of; even so, they managed to sell out the Opera House.

Tickets to both dates will be snapped up within the week, so get in fast to secure a night with Wilco; one that I personally guarantee will turn heads and make your Top Ten gigs, EVER.

Tickets go on sale December 1st 2009.
Tuesday 27th April - The Civic, Auckland - tickets from The Edge
Wednesday 28th April - The Town Hall, Wellington - tickets from Ticketek
