Skip ahead to this time next week and SOUNDWAVE FESTIVAL in Australia will well and truly have kicked off with its first weekend of shows in Brisbane and Sydney. As the final few days of anticipation and excitement pass, personal timetables are established, travel arrangements are confirmed, and a last minute attempt at memorizing every lyric to every song of every band I want to see (yes, I am that kind of person)... I’ve put together a selection of some more bands I personally am most excited to see, and highly recommend you check out. Read on!

Queensland post-hardcore band THE AMITY AFFLICTION spent 2010 solidifying their rightful place at the top of their scene with the release of their amazing second album ‘Youngbloods'. Not only did the album feature on many end of year Best Of lists, it also debuted at Number Six on the ARIA charts and received love from fans and critics alike. With music in the same vein as Alexisonfire, Underoath and House Vs. Hurricane, the band's strong touring ethic should prove favourable as the band take on the Soundwave masses as the only Australian band playing every date.

Since BRING ME THE HORIZON last played in New Zealand, the UK (+ one Australian) lads have gone from strength to strength, breaking into the U.S. market with a full-length run on Warped Tour followed shortly after with their headlining spot on the Fall Alternative Press tour. Oh, and did I mention they managed to write, record and release their third album ‘There Is A Hell Believe Me I’ve Seen It, There Is A Heaven Let’s Keep It A Secret’ and have it debut at Number One on the ARIA charts? I was lucky enough to catch their live show again late last year and can wholeheartedly say that their new tracks translate well into a live setting - wall of death here I come!

I’ll admit, before Soundwave announced that FOXY SHAZAM were on the line-up for this year, the only thing I knew about them was that I enjoyed their name. Upon research and numerous Youtube hours later, I discovered one of the most unique and promising acts to grace the Soundwave stages this year. Formed in 2004 in Ohio, the band has since toured with acts as diverse as The Strokes, The Dear Hunter and Hole. Vocalist Eric Sean Nally has been quoted saying that the band's influences range from Elton John, his childhood, Springsteen, and to every decade since the 50’s... and if you listen to their albums you’ll understand just how perfect this mismatched combination of influences are.

Swedish pop-punkers MILLENCOLIN are officially the first ‘favourite’ band I ever witnessed live, and their energetic live show definitely fuelled my love for live music more than anyone had done for me before. That concert experience was way back in 2003, and while the band have since disappeared from my high-rotation list, when Soundwave announced they would be on this year's line-up I couldn’t help but pull out their classic album ‘Penguins And Polarbears’ and get pumped. Here’s to feeling young(er) again and re-living the past!
