![]() All across the country, parents are having the last laugh. Funny how that always happens. I blame the freemasons. Your dad is probably a freemason. Right now, they’re figuring out another way to make the younger generation look stupid. This time they’ve got us over a barrel with the retro music buzz. Remember when you used to make fun of your dad’s music because it was so whack and out of date? (exceptions to this rule obviously being any ‘colour’ bands, eg. Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, The White Album…er, Simply Red) Well, if this isn’t the coup. The launch of the Summer Winery 09/10 season will actually have you racing your folks to the phone for tickets – New Wave pioneers THE B-52’s are heading our way, and they’re bringing their hitmaking Celtic-soul brothers THE PROCLAIMERS with them. It’s like some kind of retro-pajama party... and the wine comes to you. Shabam. Georgia’s disco barnstormers THE B-52’s reputation, proceeds them. Just take a trip to the jukebox and see the proof – classic tracks like ‘Roam’ and the breakthrough hit ‘Love Shack’, are still staple party classics to this day. And you don’t have to walk 500 miles to recognize those 'Proclaimer boys either, their nerd-noir accents garnered them a rep as dancehall staples for many a generation. You do not want to miss these shows. Not because of the Rod Stewart “We don’t know how long he has left, that guy must be 100” syndrome, but more because this will be the ultimate workout for your boogie shoes... and the perfect bonding opportunity for you and your folks. Ask your mum. She’s still got a crush on Charlie Reid. New Zealand support comes in the form of our very own DAVE MCARTNEY AND THE PINK FLAMINGOS, formed out of the ashes of NZ icons Dragon and Hello Sailor.
