This week - from November 16th to the 22nd - is Diabetes Awareness Week in New Zealand. Over 200,000 New Zealanders are affected by diabetes and our little country is shockingly second in the world, for having the highest number of people with diabetes (only second behind the 'States).

This year's theme for Diabetes Awareness Week is 'Stay Sweet As' - focusing on healthy eating and exercise. This is what NICK JONAS of the Jonas Brothers had to say in support of staying sweet as...

"How many of you have been through a hard time in your life? One of those moments where life throws you a curve ball. I had one of those moments 3 and a half years ago, when I was diagnosed with diabetes. It was a shock. At the hospital, I made a commitment to myself that I wouldn’t let it slow me down and it hasn’t slowed me down. Drinking and smoking are not something I want to do. Not only because I have diabetes; it’s not the lifestyle I am into. I love food but every diabetic has foods that won’t work for them [sending your blood sugar soaring]. Mine are pancakes and soda."
