Marion Cotillard says that feminism doesn’t create equality.

In a recent interview with 'Porter' magazine, actress Marion Cotillard declared that feminism creates separation and that she doesn’t identify as a feminist.

Cotillard said about gender equality in the film industry: "Filmmaking is not about gender. You cannot ask a president in a festival like Cannes to have, like, five movies directed by women and five by men. For me it doesn’t create equality, it creates separation. I mean I don’t qualify myself as a feminist. We need to fight for women’s rights but I don’t want to separate women from men. We’re separated already because we’re not made the same and it’s the difference that creates this energy in creation and love. Sometimes in the word feminism there’s too much separation."

Ummm... Marion, feminism "doesn’t create equality, it creates separation"?!

Point-blank, the definition of feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the ground of the equality of the sexes". I.e. EQUALITY FOR ALL!

Feminism is necessary in the fight for gender equality in Hollywood, due to the male-dominated industry traditionally separating the abilities of female creatives and talent from that of their male counter-parts. Yup, separation... some would also call it oppression.

According to a documentary made by Bloomberg earlier this year, of the top 600 grossing films made between 2007 and 2013, only 1.9% were directed by a woman.

And you say that we don’t need feminism, Marion?
