Coup De Main presents... a special 'Mistaken For Strangers' screening + Q&A with The National's Matt Berninger!
Coup De Main is delighted to announce that we will be hosting TWO very special screenings of 'Mistaken For Strangers' on February 3rd, 2014 - the night before The National play Auckland's Vector Arena - which will be attended by frontman Matt Berninger, who will participate in a Q&A session following the film.
'Mistaken For Strangers' was one of our favourites from this year's NZ Film Festival, and earlier this year we spoke to The National's Bryce Dessner about the movie:
CDM: 'Mistaken For Strangers' is playing at the New Zealand International Film Festival now, what ran through your mind while watching Tom Berninger's film for the first time?
BRYCE: I was really proud of him. We were there for him filming that the whole time, he was able to shape it into something more than a band-film. It’s not just a story about the band, it’s really this other story that we play a role in. We were mostly just proud that he pulled it off.
CDM: Do you feel like it's an accurate portrayal of the The National?
BRYCE: It’s a portrayal of a side of the band, yeah. We come off okay in it, but as I said it’s not really about us - there’s things about it that are accurate and others that are less so, but it’s definitely an interesting movie.
CDM: In a good way, the humour of it reminded me of 'Spinal Tap'.
BRYCE: Yeah, it’s like a post 'Spinal Tap' music rockumentary.

"To coincide with the band’s February 2014 tour of Australia and New Zealand, The National front man Matt Berninger will appear at a number of special Q&A screening events for the documentary MISTAKEN FOR STRANGERS.
Screenings will take place in Auckland, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Tickets to the special event screenings will go on sale directly via cinemas today, 19 December.
The film is shot by Matt’s brother, Tom Berninger, and documents Tom’s experience touring with the band. Featuring live footage from the tour following the release of the album High Violet, the film is an incredibly insightful look into the band as well as the relationship between Matt and Tom. The film also features footage of the band in the studio recording for the new album Trouble Will Find Me.
Matt and his wife Carin Besser serve as producers on the film, and have been actively involved in its development along with Tom. Carin also co-edited for the film."
